Troodos - Platres Trout Farm 6.8KM Linear

Project type

Hiking

Date

11th June 2026

Route Map, Elevation, Photos & Description

This was a great walk. A bunch of us left a car at the end of the walk and travelled up to Troodos. We started the day with a coffee at the Troodos Hotel and then after headed up the tarmac road from the mini roundabout and turned left at the army camp by the church. The tracks were easy and wide here, and the route flat till you get to the start of the Kaledonian Trail.
We then followed the river down hill to the Trout Farm.
There were a lot of steps to go down and some river crossings to navigate, quite tricky under foot at times but very enjoyable. We stopped at the Kaledonian falls for a photoshoot and then continued on our way. There were small brown trout in the river. They are quite difficult to see but I managed to photograph them.
Not a physically demanding walk and very interesting and enjoyable. On the way through Platres the street sellers were selling cherries as June is Cherry season in the mountains.
